Add a pet to a client's account
Add a new pet to an existing client and fill in the pet's details, such as breed, birth date and vet.
Each pet belongs to a client account. Once the client is set up, add each of their pets so you can book appointments, track vaccinations and keep notes about the pet.
Add the pet
- Find and open the client. See "Find and edit a client".
- Click the Pets tab.
- Click New Pet.
- In the Add New Pet window, type the pet's Name and pick the Type (for example, dog or cat).
- Click Save.
The new pet's page opens so you can fill in the rest of their details.
Fill in the pet's details
- On the pet's page, click the Edit tab.
- Fill in what you know, for example:
- Pet Type, Breed and Color.
- Sex and Spayed/Neutered.
- Date of birth.
- Vet and Vet Phone.
- Weight and Size Classification.
- Microchip ID, Microchip maker and License number.
- Click Save at the top of the page.
Tip: While you're on the pet's page, add their shots on the Vaccinations tab and any warnings on the Notes tab. See "Add or update vaccination records" and "Add pet warnings and notes".
Other pet tabs
Depending on what your business uses, the pet page also has tabs such as Appointments, Documents, Pictures, Packages, and service tabs like Boarding, Grooming and Daycare. These service tabs hold the pet's notes, warnings and default rates for that service.
When a pet passes away or stops coming
On the pet's Edit tab, tick Inactive if the pet no longer visits, or Deceased if the pet has passed away. Then click Save. This keeps the pet's history while showing staff the pet is no longer active.
Note: The Pets tab on the client page also has a trash can (Delete Pet) icon. Deleting a pet may remove its history. In most cases, use Inactive or Deceased instead.
Who can do this
You need permission to add and change pets. If New Pet doesn't work for you, ask your manager to check your access rights.
Common questions
What if the pet type I need isn't in the list? Pet types come from your business's lists. Ask an administrator to add it.
The pet was rehomed to a different client. What do I do? If your account has it, the pet's Edit tab shows a Transfer to another owner button. Use it to move the pet to the new owner's account.
Can a client add their own pets? If you use online reservations, clients can add pets through their online account. [CHECK: confirm whether pets added online need staff approval.]
